SUMMARY:Stay Safe\, Take a Break - Farmer Appreciation Event
DESCRIPTION:The Chamber Ag Committee will deliver 180 goodie bags to producers in the Southwest quadrant of Winneshiek County. \nStay Safe\, Take A Break Farmer Appreciation Event Scheduled for October 22nd (date subject to change based on harvest)\n \nThe Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its 21st annual Stay Safe\, Take a Break event which celebrates and serves farmers during the fall harvest.  Stay Safe\, Take a Break began in 2004 to help fight farmer fatigue and keep workers safe in Winneshiek County during the fall harvest. \nThis event\, led by members of the Chamber’s Agriculture Committee\, will facilitate the in-field delivery of 180 goody bags to farmers in the southwest quadrant of Winneshiek County.  The bags will be filled with the donations from area businesses and have historically included items like work gloves\, tire pressure gauges\, and snacks.  The Chamber is accepts donations for these goodie bags from community members or businesses that would like to show appreciation for local producers.  Donations will be accepted through October 18th\, at which time the Decorah FFA students will help assemble bags. \nWinneshiek County is home to more than 2\,000 active farms which raise hogs\, dairy and beef cattle\, corn\, soybeans\, hay\, and produce. The Chamber is proud to support this sector through the work of their Agriculture Committee which includes over 15 professionals from Winneshiek County.  Their work throughout the year supports educational events\, two scholarships\, and appreciation events like this. For more information on how you can contribute to this and other ag-related programs\, contact the DACC at (563) 382-3990.

SUMMARY:Manufacturing Week
DESCRIPTION:National Manufacturing Week takes place October 4th to October 11th. This week of recognition and celebration was first started in 2011 by The Manufacturing Institute\, a part of the National Association of Manufacturers\, as a way to celebrate America’s manufacturing sector and all its contributions to the economy.  The Decorah Area is stronger because of manufacturing businesses and their local and America-based production. The manufacturing sector here sustains 2\,000 jobs and the investments it makes into our business ecosystem and local community projects is a powerful force for economic health and a higher quality of life. National Manufacturing Week is a great opportunity to recognize these employers and their workforce. \nThe Decorah Area has a diverse and skilled labor force with manufacturing and construction holding nearly a quarter of the jobs. In the manufacturing sector alone there are more than 20 businesses and those businesses include some of the area’s largest employers: Stanley Engineered Fastening\, Collins Aerospace\, Deco Products\, Gemini\, Inc. and Iowa Rotocast Plastics. The 2024 Labor Force Profile provided by Iowa Workforce Development for the Decorah area has the manufacturing category at 11.3% of the total labor force\, behind healthcare & social services (14.9%) and wholesale retail trade (13.8%) but above construction (10.7%) and agriculture (9.9%). \nThe Chamber will be coordinating professional photo shoots as part of a larger promotional effort to enhance workforce recruitment materials and increase place-based imagery.  National Manufacturing Week is seven days long\, but the gratitude for Decorah’s manufacturing sector extends throughout the year.
