Chamber Ambassadors were thrilled to help the Decorah Farmers Market celebrate a 50th Anniversary in 2025! This market is one of the most robust and long-lasting in the state of Iowa for towns in this size bracket. It has long since proven its place in the local economy, supporting hundreds of small businesses and serving as a critical business incubator for many businesses that grew / established brick and mortar locations (e.g., Country View Dairy, LEFSE LODGE KAFE, Yellow River Dairy, Patchwork Green Farm)
Ambassadors were joined by Market Manager Imani Cornelius and Farmers Market Board Members Josh Dansdill, Carly Zierke, Tom Mathiasen, and Cheryl Weiseler for the ribbon cutting and ringing of the market bell. Thank you @City of Decorah Mayor Lorraine Borowski for being in charge of the gold scissors!
The Decorah Farmers Market started in 1975 by passionate local growers/producers Steve McCargar, Perry-O & David Sliwa, Meryl & Cindy Steines, and Marilyn Joy Roslien. Over the years it has been located in three community spaces – behind City Hall, in the Clairborne gravel lot, and its current location in the parking lot below the Oneota Community Food Co-op.
The Decorah Farmers Markets requires that all goods sold are producer grown/made. The Board of Directors is proud to have a diversity of vendors – from honey to mushrooms to bread to vegetables and beyond – all within 60 miles of Decorah.
The Market takes place May – October on Wednesday afternoons from 3PM – 6PM and Saturday mornings from 9AM to Noon.
