Guardians of Northeast Iowa, Inc. (GNEIA) is a 501(c)(3) organization that offers professional guardianship, conservatorship, and payee services. GNEIA has been serving Iowans since 2016. Guardians and conservators are appointed and supervised by the court. In a guardianship or conservatorship proceeding, the court appoints a person or agency to make decisions on behalf of individuals who have demonstrated an inability to make decisions for themselves based on medical and behavioral evidence. In guardianship, the decisions relate to the person’s health, well-being, and housing, while in conservatorship, the decisions pertain to the person’s financial affairs, including their assets and estate. Representative Payee services are provided to individuals receiving Social Security benefits who need help with their finances, such as budgeting and bill payments.
GNEIA was co-founded by Director Anna Stamat, a resident of Winneshiek County since 2009. Anna retired in 2021 from Northeast Iowa Community College, where she served as the Disability Services Coordinator, and is dedicated to serving vulnerable citizens. Currently, GNEIA serves over 200 individuals in need across Iowa.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, Guardians of Northeast Iowa accepts donations, which have a real impact on the lives of others.
