As part of their summer Open House event, Porter House Museum unveiled a new exhibit room – one that has never been part of the public tour. The room, located on the 2nd floor at the top of the stairs, helps tell the story of Bert Porter’s original butterfly collection.
Special thanks to Stacey Bolson who painted and repaired plaster to color match what Porter’s had chosen, Decorah Electric who installed museum track lighting, The Perfect Edge team who cut and installed glass into Bert’s wood cases, Porter House Board Members David Faldet and Don Lucas who installed the cases, and Maggie Ellickson and Erica Riha Reynolds who created informational signage.
Porter House Museum is pleased to offer public tours during the summer months Tuesday – Sunday at 1PM and 230PM.
Thank you Ambassadors for helping to celebrate a unique museum expansion with a ribbon cutting: Nic Wilz (Knox Financial Services), Marcia Madrigal (Kelly Real Estate), David Robinson (AssuredPartners, Ray Rinkol (Miller Law Office)

Note: Porter House’s “Keep the Home Fires Burning” Fundraiser is still taking place. The unexpected failure of the steam boiler heating system required a big, unplanned investment for 2025. Individuals and businesses can contribute to support the museum. All donors will be recognized in the “Fall 2025 Membership Newsletter” by giving tier (named or anonymous). Learn more here:
